Frequently Asked Questions

1) What age patients do you treat?

We treat adult patients ages 18+.

2) In which states do you see patients?

Michigan, New York, Florida, California, Virginia, Georgia, Arizona.

3) Do you accept health insurance?

In order to provide the highest level of holistic care to our patients, we do not take insurance which means patients pay fees out-of-pocket. This allows the flexibility needed to treat our patients with the care they deserve.

You may be able to get up to 90% of the fee reimbursed by your insurance if your policy includes coverage for “out of network” providers. Please check with your insurance carrier.

4) What if I am currently abusing the medication I want to taper?

We cannot work with you if you are currently abusing medication or any substance. If you are actively or recently abusing medication, please seek an addiction specialist.

5) What approach do you use to help people taper?

I provide hyperbolic, patient-led tapers.

I use a slow rate (reducing every 3-12 weeks) & small medication reductions (2.5% - 10% at a time is common but varies for each person).

I do not use rigid schedules but adjust based on what your body tolerates.

I do not use medication bridges.

I appreciate the Ashton Manual & Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines (but do not follow them exactly).

I give holistic lifestyle recommendations that ease withdrawal.

I provide ongoing mental & emotional support before, during, & after your taper.

6) What diagnoses do you work with?

I commonly work with people who have been given diagnoses of anxiety, panic disorder, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and various personality disorders.

We are no longer accepting patients with diagnoses of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or psychotic disorders. For these circumstances, we recommend working closely with a psychiatrist in-person.

7) Can I make an appointment for my family member?

No. While we receive calls from family members who like our approach and want their loved one to engage in it, we have found this circumstance does not work. An important milestone for a person deciding to taper is that he/she is capable of managing their own process independently and feels motivated to engage in holistic lifestyle changes.
